Kaziranga National Park, in Assam, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the stronghold of the Great Indian One-Horned Rhinoceros. Sprawling across the floodplains of the Brahmaputra, its landscape of tall elephant grass, marshes, and dense forests shelters a spectacular variety of wildlife. From tigers and wild water buffalo to swamp deer and Asiatic elephants, Kaziranga is a biodiversity hotspot. With over 450 bird species, it’s also a paradise for birdwatchers.

  • November – February (Winter): Pleasant weather, great visibility, and ideal for spotting rhinos, tigers, elephants, swamp deer, and migratory birds.
  • March – April (Spring): Slightly warmer, but still excellent for wildlife viewing. Grasslands are drier, making animal sightings easier.
  • May – October: The park remains closed due to heavy monsoon rains and flooding.
  • Winter (November – February): Cool and pleasant, temperatures range 8°C to 25°C. Best time for safaris and birdwatching.
  • Summer (March – May): Warm but manageable, 18°C to 37°C. Grasslands dry up, making wildlife easier to spot.
  • Monsoon (June – October): Heavy rainfall and flooding; the park remains closed. Temperatures vary 20°C to 35°C with high humidity.

The nearest airport is Jorhat Airport (97 km), well connected to Kolkata, Guwahati, and other major cities.

Guwahati Airport (217 km) is the largest nearby airport with wider connectivity.

TRAIN

The nearest railway station is Jorhat (97 km), while Guwahati (240 km) is a major railhead with trains from Delhi, Kolkata, and other parts of India.

ROAD

Kaziranga lies on NH37, with buses, taxis, and private cars available from Guwahati, Jorhat, and Tezpur.
